  • This is the oldest pub in Filey, and is a former coaching Inn. It is grade II listed and the historical charm of this establishment hits you in the face as you enter.

You must go here whilst in Filey, even if you are not a “pub type person”, and even if only for a quick half. The separate toilet block is a ‘historic’ treasure. Foords remains the chosen pub for fisherman to unwind or to host angling competitions etc.

The front room is a museum in itself and there are scores of fascinating fading photos of Filey in both the rooms. Look out as well for the carpet, the urban myth is that some workmen were staying at Foords while re-carpeting a well-known national estate agents in Scarborough. Their bar bill at the end of their stay was somewhat more than anticipated, so they laid a carpet in part-payment. It’s still there to this day!

Undoubtedly, Foords is a little rough around the edges, but that is a massive part of its charm. Don’t forget to have a look at the last two surviving Filey fishing cobles, Margaret and Beth A, the are laid up around the back of the pub. There’s a lot of head scratching as to what their future will be, so see them while you can.

Foords also has rooms for rent at extremely reasonable rates. As the owner Gary used to be an international Rugby League referee, expect any televised RL match to be on the big screen in the back room.
