I expect that many of us have sat and watched the boats from Filey Sailing Club bobbing about the waters of Filey Bay and wondered what it is like to be out there. Well, on Saturday 9 May between 10.30am and 3.30pm the club is offering taster sessions where, in the company of an experienced sailor, you can sail Filey Bay!
The event is free, but applicants are asked to fill in the contact form on the club website beforehand. Refreshments will be available in the club house. Sailors are asked to wear sport-type clothing and trainers that allow movement. Also bring a change of clothes, you probably won’t get wet, but it is best to be prepared! There must be an adult parent or guardian with any youth participants.
One of the highlights of the season is the club’s annual regatta, which takes place on the weekend of 20 and 21 June. Bookings can be made via Filey Sailing Club’s website. The bay looks fabulous on the regatta weekend with boats of all sizes flitting across the water. It is a spectacle even for committed landlubbers!
The club is also hosting a the prestigious RS200 Nationals. Sailors from across the country will be converging on Filey for the event that takes place over between 1 August to 6 August.
