The Salt of the Yorkshire Earth, a Filey poetry anthology

Filey, News   /   Tags: ,

The Filey Literature Festival has worked with poet Robin Needham, to produce a Filey anthology, The Salt of the Yorkshire Earth. The idea came about following his work popping up on social media.

Ode to the Filey Lifeboat Heroes (first two verses)

The Filey Lifeboat Heroes
Are a sure and steady crew,
In time of need, the call they heed
To make a rendezvous.
They gather at the station,
The selfless put to sea,
Outward bound, in a Mersey Class
Or an inshore inflatable “D”.

Gale force winds and heavy swell,
They take it in their stride,
Puppies, puffins, porpoises
And souls unspecified.
They may even come to rescue you
If you’re caught out by the tide.
The stricken, stranded, scared and stuck,
And persons petrified.

Copies will be available at many outlets throughout the town, The price is £1.50 and all proceeds will be donated to Filey Lifeboat. For updates and mail order details, please go to Filey Literature Festival‘s facebook page.
