Tidal surge warning issued for Filey

Filey, News   /

Filey Residents are being told to prepare for high tides and possible tidal flooding between 4am and 4pm tomorrow (Friday the 13th of January).

The tides are set to affect Filey, Sandsend, Whitby and Scarborough.

The predicted gale force winds could result in large waves and high water levels around the times of high tide.

Flood risk details have been published by the Environmental Agency, who are closely monitoring the flood risk and are working hard to reduce the risk of flooding by checking and maintaining defences and ensuring that temporary defences are ready to be set up where necessary.

Those people who are concerned about potential flood risk from the high tides are being urged to sign up for the Environmental Agency flood warnings, call Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or follow @EnvAgency and #floodaware on Twitter for the latest flood updates.

Property owners in the areas at risk are being urged to deploy any flood defences that they have at hand; those owners who require assistance and support to protect their properties can obtain sandbags from local stock piles.
